Remarks at the Second Press Conference of Tiangong I & Shenzhou X Manned Space Program
2015-04-02

Presented by Wang Zhaoyao Director General of China Manned Space Agency(June 26th,  2013)

Ladies and Gentlemen,
Good Morning! It is my great pleasure to meet you here, together with Yuan Jie, vice president of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation, and Deng Yibing, director of China Astronaut Research and Training Center. At 8:07 this morning, the re-entry module of Shenzhou X spacecraft successfully landed at the preset targeting area of the primary landing site in the central Inner Mongolia, and the 3 astronauts got off the module safe and sound. By the moment, Tiangong I and Shenzhou X Manned Space Mission has achieved all the goals including accurate injection into orbit, precise docking, stable operation, good health of the crew in orbit, and safe return. Entrusted by the Tiangong I & Shenzhou X Manned Space Mission Headquarters, I would like to brief you on Shenzhou X spacecraft flight mission.
At 17:38, Jun. 11th, 2013, the Shenzhou X spacecraft, with 3 astronauts aboard, blasted off atop a Long MarchⅡ-F carrier rocket from the Jiuquan Satellite Lunch Center and then entered into the orbit accurately.
At 13:18, Jun. 13th, after orbital injection, Shenzhou X spacecraft completed automatic rendezvous and docking with Tiangong I lab module via remote guidance from the ground and the spacecraft’s autonomous flight control. At 16:17, the 3 astronauts successfully made their way into Tiangong I. From 10:04 to 10:52, Jun. 20th, in collaboration with Nie Haisheng and Zhang Xiaoguang, female astronaut Wang Yaping gave a space lecture to over 60 million students in China, demonstrated some unique phenomena in microgravity environment, and interacted with students via two-way video link.
At 8:26, Jun. 23th, in close collaboration with Zhang Xiaoguang and Wang Yaping, Crew Commander Nie Haisheng manually operated Shenzhou X to undock from Tiangong I, and berth at a certain distance away from the space lab. At 10:07, Shenzhou X spacecraft was docked with Tiangong I again successfully, and then the astronauts entered the Tiangong I lab module again.
At 07:05, Jun. 25th, Shenzhou X spacecraft undocked from Tiangong I automatically, then the spacecraft conducted some technical tests such as fly-around and rendezvous test. At 07:19 this morning, Shenzhou X started up its reentry procedure, and the reentry module landed precisely at the preset targeting area at 08:07. At present, Tiangong I space lab has reentered into its orbit for long-term operation.
During the flight on orbit, the three astronauts conducted a series of scientific experiments and technical tests as planned. All the 3 astronauts worked and led their life in orbit normally.
During the space mission, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, President of the People’s Republic of China, Chairman of the Central Military Commission attended the see-off ceremony personally for the Shenzhou X space crew at the spacecraft launch site, and made important remarks on the completion of the space flight mission. He also came to Beijing Aerospace Control Center and talked with the astronauts amiably on line. In addition, some other top leaders of the Party and the central government of China, including Li Keqiang, Liu Yunshan, Zhang Gaoli, have come to the commanding centers to supervise the mission on site. This embodies the great importance that the Chinese government leaders attach to the mission, and their deep concern and care for all the mission staff.
As we noticed, the whole nation, overseas Chinese, our foreign friends as well as the media both at home and abroad have all paid close attention to the preparation and completion of the mission. Therefore, on behalf of the program headquarters and all the staff, I would like to express my sincere appreciation for your attention and strong support!
With a complete success of this spaceflight mission as a milestone, China’s manned space program will enter into a new phase of manned space station construction. As we celebrate our success, we also realize the fact that there is still a gap between China and the leading countries in terms of manned space technology and capability. Much remains to be done for us to live up to the state’s needs and our people’s expectations. We still have a long way to go to fulfill the goals of our manned space program’s “three-step” strategy. The follow-on tasks are still arduous. Bearing in mind the needs for comprehensive development of the whole nation, we will insist on developing China’s manned space program in an innovation-oriented and sustainable way. In exploring space and benefiting mankind, China will make its shared contributions.
Now, I am willing to answer your questions.
