The first "Tiangong Class" began at 3:40 pm (Beijing Time) on December 9, 2021, with Chinese astronauts teaching in space again after 8 years. "Teachers in space" Zhai Zhigang, Wang Yaping and Ye Guangfu gave a wonderful space science popularization class to teenagers, which was the Tiangong Class in China Space Station.

During the 60-minute class, Shenzhou-13 crew members Zhai Zhigang, Wang Yaping and Ye Guangfu vividly introduced the working and living scenes in the space station, demonstrated such miraculous phenomena as cytological experiment, human movement and liquid surface tension in microgravity environment, and explained the scientific principles of these experiments. During the class, they also had real-time interaction with the teachers and students on the Earth via video call.

This teaching activity in space was live-streamed, with the primary classroom at the China Science and Technology Museum, and four classrooms in Nanning of Guangxi, Wenchuan of Sichuan, Hong Kong and Macao. A total of 1,420 students attended the class on site in the five classrooms.

The teaching activity was co-hosted by the China Manned Space Agency, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Science and Technology, China Association for Science and Technology, and the China Media Group, with support from the China Science and Technology Museum and relevant research and development groups of China Manned Space Program.
