Air Force major of the Chinese People's Liberation Army and China's first female astronaut that took on spaceflight mission. She joined the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Air Force in 1997 and worked as a deputy head in an Aviation Corps of the PLA Air Force. She became a veteran pilot after flying safely for 1,680 hours. On June 2012, she was carried by the Shenzhou-9 spaceship for China's first manned space docking mission with the orbiting Tiangong-1 space lab module, and was awarded the title “hero astronaut”.
